During a discovery call this week, I had a client mention that she has seen all this talk about ‘telling your brand story’, but doesn’t really want to talk about her kids or the fact that she’s a mother- in fact she wanted to separate her business so that she wasn’t thought of as a ‘mum with a side hustle’ and be taken seriously within her field.
And I’m here to tell you that weaving the story of your brand throughout your message (be it via visuals, website copy and socials) doesn’t equal telling your life story and broadcasting your private life for all to see.
???????? Your brand can be personable without giving away private details.
???????? Your brand can talk about its founder’s journey and motivations without mentioning your 3 kids, husband and pet llama. (Tho I would personally LOVE to hear more about the llama!) ????
???????? Your business can show what makes it unique and why customers should place their trust in you without you giving away the details of your next holiday destination, or the fact that you do cross fit on a Friday.
Basically, there are no rules- you can give as little or as much away of your personal life and still have a brand that has personality and is relatable.
Because it IS important that your brand has those things- it’s how you gain the trust and loyalty of your customers, and stand out from other businesses also competing for your ideal client’s attention.
