Hi! I'm Renae, I'm so glad you're here!

I’m the sometimes awkward, left-handed, trombone-playing introvert behind the brand Bird & Branch.

I’m a wife to an incredibly tall musician, mum to two rambunctious little people who challenge me every day, and honestly make me a better person.

I’ve always been a story-teller. Writing, art, music- they’re all different ways of telling a story, but ultimately they achieve the same thing- emotion and connection.

I have a degree in Visual Arts, majoring in Interactive & Visual Design, and have been running my business now for 12 years!

I have an incredibly eclectic taste in music (sometimes erring on the side of daggy), and am not afraid to belt out some Celine Dion or Boyzone at the top of my lungs.

Music makes up a huge part of my life, and when I’m not designing, I run a music shop with my husband.

I am an 80-year-old grandma masquerading as a 30-something-year-old: my favourite pastimes are napping, cross-stitch, board games (I’m a stickler for following the rules!) and sharing a cuppa with a friend.

I hope we can work together and create some design magic!

  • I walked in to my office tonight to find my 6 year old filming videos on my phone for her 'channel' (she does not have a channel of any sort FYI). Despite being equal parts amused and horrified at how the small amount of supervised YouTube is influencing her, it got me thinking about random things I did as a child/teen that ironically made sense given my chosen career path. (Swipe for a trip down a 90s kid's memory lane). Anyone remember these random characters? I used to cut them out and create stories for them- who they were, what they liked, who they dated. I also made bulging scrapbooks consisting of cut-out photos from Horse Deals magazines where I'd give each horse a name and pedigree, and group them into stables and write stories about them. The hours spent every January painstakingly decorating my school books (remember the kraft paper and contact? I'm totally team reusable covers now! #millennialmum) I made family magazines and newsletters, loved scrapbooking and got an award in Grade 1 for the best colour-in-er of the year (greatest achievement yet). All this to say- I was storytelling and designing from the very beginning, and it is not surprising that this is what I spend my days doing now. 💖 Did you do random things as a kid that totally make sense in your chosen career now?

You never know when a fellow business owner is struggling with a certain aspect of their business that one of these tools may help, so today I am sharing with you my top 5 BRILLIANT biz tools, so you can love them too! 1. Canva - I use Canva to quickly whip up my own graphics, plus set up my client's brand kits for them to make their own graphics. (Free & Paid Options, I use the paid) 2. Moxie - This is my business hub and CRM- send invoices, track tasks, and even have leads come in from your website, there are so many capabilities with this program! 3. Klaviyo is my email & SMS marketing program- so easy to use and perfect for service providers. (Free for less than 500 sends a month) 4. LastPass - sick of remembering login details? LastPass is Free and securely stores all of your passwords and payment details, so no more lost passwords (or using the same unsecure password for everything!) (Free program has all you need!) 5. When I see businesses with their shiny new brands use them consistently across their social feeds 🥰 A perfect example are the legends at @roofspacerenovators ✅ Brand Colours ✅ Brand Fonts ✅ Patterns + Fonts ✅ Imagery that nails their vibe ✅ CONSISTENCY!! It makes SUCH a difference when you are consistent in your social media graphics. You’ll look more profesh, build brand affinity and stand out!   • What do a haircut and a rebrand have in common? Some of you who are long time followers may have noticed that I have been sporting a fairly drastic haircut of late. 💇‍♀️ After already deciding that I was done with colouring my hair, [a little daunting, as I knew I was getting more and more of those silver strands- something you don’t see a lot of 30 somethings walking around with] a fateful hair appointment earlier this year led to me confessing that I’d always wanted to have short hair, and my amazing hairdresser @catherinetaylorhair12 convincing me take the plunge. #yolo I have never had a haircut transform me like this one. I honestly felt like a new person, and somehow, out of all the hair styles I’ve had in my life (and I’ve had a few- I get bored with my hair very easily!) this bold look feels like the real me. Low maintenance, yet creative and a little bit quirky, I’ve never been one to ‘follow trends’ and my hair now just feels so ‘me’. But what does this all have to do with a rebrand you ask? Well, just like a drastic hair change, a business rebrand could be just the thing to make your business feel transformed and truly ‘you’. Sure, a new appearance will turn heads and get people talking, but it’s what it will do on the inside that really matters. A boost of confidence; a business that you are proud to show off. A clear vision- a new perspective, refined message- making sure you’re appealing to the right customers, and that they know exactly what your business stands for, and why they should work with you. And ultimately, a fresh start. Embracing change and ‘the real you’ behind your business can be the best way to spark new beginnings and growth. So if your brand is feeling a little stale, or doesn’t align with your business goals or messaging anymore, consider this a nudge to make the jump- it might be a confronting process, you may be thinking ‘what have I done’ halfway through, but trust me, if you find the right person to help you, a rebrand could just be the best thing you do in 2024!

I can totally nerd out over a useful business tool, and anything that helps me organise and run my business (and make my life easier) is a must have! You never know when a fellow business owner is struggling with a certain aspect of their business that one of these tools may help, so today I am sharing with you my top 5 BRILLIANT biz tools, so you can love them too! 1. Canva - I use Canva to quickly whip up my own graphics, plus set up my client's brand kits for them to make their own graphics. (Free & Paid Options, I use the paid) 2. Moxie - This is my business hub and CRM- send invoices, track tasks, and even have leads come in from your website, there are so many capabilities with this program! 3. Klaviyo is my email & SMS marketing program- so easy to use and perfect for service providers. (Free for less than 500 sends a month) 4. LastPass - sick of remembering login details? LastPass is Free and securely stores all of your passwords and payment details, so no more lost passwords (or using the same unsecure password for everything!) (Free program has all you need!) 5. Eliza Stock - Amazing stock images you can use across your whole business! Want to chat more about these tools? You know what warms my little graphic designer heart? When I see businesses with their shiny new brands use them consistently across their social feeds 🥰 A perfect example are the legends at @roofspacerenovators ✅ Brand Colours ✅ Brand Fonts ✅ Patterns + Fonts ✅ Imagery that nails their vibe ✅ CONSISTENCY!! What do a haircut and a rebrand have in common? Some of you who are long time followers may have noticed that I have been sporting a fairly drastic haircut of late. 💇‍♀️ After already deciding that I was done with colouring my hair, [a little daunting, as I knew I was getting more and more of those silver strands- something you don’t see a lot of 30 somethings walking around with] a fateful hair appointment earlier this year led to me confessing that I’d always wanted to have short hair, and my amazing hairdresser @catherinetaylorhair12 convincing me take the plunge. #yolo I have never had a haircut transform me like this one. I honestly felt like a new person, and somehow, out of all the hair styles I’ve had in my life (and I’ve had a few- I get bored with my hair very easily!) this bold look feels like the real me. Low maintenance, yet creative and a little bit quirky, I’ve never been one to ‘follow trends’ and my hair now just feels so ‘me’. But what does this all have to do with a rebrand you ask? Well, just like a drastic hair change, a business rebrand could be just the thing to make your business feel transformed and truly ‘you’. Sure, a new appearance will turn heads and get people talking, but it’s what it will do on the inside that really matters. A boost of confidence; a business that you are proud to show off. A clear vision- a new perspective, refined message- making sure you’re appealing to the right customers, and that they know exactly what your business stands for, and why they should work with you. And ultimately, a fresh start. Embracing change and ‘the real you’ behind your business can be the best way to spark new beginnings and growth. So if your brand is feeling a little stale, or doesn’t align with your business goals or messaging anymore, consider this a nudge to make the jump- it might be a confronting process, you may be thinking ‘what have I done’ halfway through, but trust me, if you find the right person to help you, a rebrand could just be the best thing you do in 2024!
